Unverified source indicate the population there is about 437,963 people. so 20% is just 87592 people.

News say, "in total 321,979 people on the island remain to be vaccinated".

They chiong sinovac. I think its quite obvious from charts, those that chiong china vaccine their case also not well control. Pfizer is 95% also can kana from variants, imagine 50.4% efficacy.

If Phuket become their point of virus or variants entry then the whole country will cfm very jialat.

He also reported that so far 95,423 people in Phuket had received their first vaccination injection, with 90,781 of those also receiving their second injection.

Phuket Opinion: Falling into the Seychelles Sinovac hole

PHUKET: The rush to roll out the mass vaccination of people using the Chinese-made Sinovac Biotech vaccine ‘CoronaVac’ has come home to roost in the Seychelles, the world-famous island tourist destination that Phuket officials have used as an example to follow.

This past week authorities in the Seychelles have ordered schools closed and a raft of other emergency provisions to try halt the spread of COVID-19 infections that has ripped through the island nation, which recorded close to 500 new cases in the three days to 1 May among a population of just under 100,000.

The country’s news agency reported that of the current ongoing infections, about 1,000 were “active cases”. One third of those active cases were people who had received two vaccine doses of CoronaVac.

The same has happened in Chile and Turkey, which also both used the Sinovac vaccine for their mass-vaccination campaigns.

The is no reason to believe that Phuket will fare any better than any of these countries if the platform for vaccination protection of people across the island is based on the same vaccine: CoronaVac.

Of note, Seychelles is a world leader in the percentage of its population that have received vaccination injections, underlining the issue that reaching the ‘herd immunity’ target of vaccinating 70% of the population appears pointless if achieved with a vaccine with a low efficacy in preventing infections.

Re: Living in Bangkok!

A bit weird right? All the higher efficacy vaccine dose cost avg lesser than made in China ones. They always say rich nations buy all the vaccines liao but those vaccines are cheaper than China one leh. No wonder Philippines need to loan banks to buy Sinovac and Sinopharm!

This thai news report also funny. They so honest telling thais the Sinovac they using now only have 49.6% efficacy!

The latest results for China’s CoronaVac vaccine, developed by Sinovac Biotech, a Beijing-based pharmaceutical company, are disappointing.

Phase Three trials, conducted on healthcare workers in Brazil, yielded an efficacy rate of just 50.7%, barely above the 50% threshold set by the World Health Organization for Covid-19 vaccines.

The results of a real-world trial released a week earlier were even worse.

The vaccine was estimated to be just 49.6% effective against symptomatic Covid-19 cases. When asymptomatic infections were included, this figure dropped to an unimpressive 35.1%.

The Chinese authorities’ reaction did little to boost confidence.

After news broke of the discouraging results, Gao Fu, head of the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, admitted at a conference on April 10 that current vaccines “don’t have very high rates of protection”.

King of Thailand ‘rushed to Intensive Care Unit’ with respiratory problems

King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand has been rushed to an intensive Care Unit at Siriraj Hospital according to reports.

The 68-year-old monarch was admitted to ICU a few days ago after suffering from respiratory problems.

“Sources say the king was initially treated at Bangkok Hospital then transferred to Siriraj when his condition became serious.

“Despite the rumours, right now there is no sign The King’s illness is life-threatening. He has respiratory problems, probably not Covid-related, and was in the ICU at Siriraj.”
